Dobermann dogs have been part of our family for over 25 years.
In May 1982, my parents bought the one-year-old Dobermann “Romy vom Waechtersberg”, which up to that point had been raised by a nanny and knew only very little of the “outside” world.
Romy was supposed to be a family dog and a guard dog, but things were about to change...
One Sunday afternoon a young couple stood in front of our door and introduced themselves as the Neubauer’s, the owner’s of Romy’s father. “We just wanted to stop by and see how she liked her new home.”
They had also brought Romy’s father, “Guy von Smeulvenn” and he enjoyed playing with his daughter and running around with her.
Sabine and Walter Neubauer convinced us to exhibit Romy at a big Dobermann exhibition in Munich, Germany, in September. Later we realized that our first exhibition was “only” the IDC show.
Why not do a bit of dog obedience and training and then go to the dog sports field.
“Schutzdienst”? Well, let’s try that. The dog, that was supposed to be only a family dog, had so much fun and was trainable for the work dog test. The Dobermann club also offered a test for the breeding requirements, so why not try to accomplish this ZTP while practicing.
After a short amount of time it turned out that Romy was my dog and since that day, Dobermann has also become my breed. So I worked with Romy in the area of dog sport and also presented her with success at dog exhibitions.
SchH I and ZIP “accomplished, then on to SchH II and III and FH …
Well, we had been infected by the Dobermann virus.
In the meantime (twentytwo years) we have raised nine litters and are deservingly proud of our offspring.
